"The 2018 Wallufer Walkenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken Alte Reben offers a completely different bouquet compared to the regular Walkenberg Spätlese. This is populated with ripe, even warm and possibly also overripe and concentrated fruits without sacrificing the typical coolish and elegant background of Becker's Rieslings. Rich and concentrated on the palate, this is a dense, powerful, well-structured yet refined and salty-vital Walkenberg with grip and aging potential. The 2018 needs about five years to reach its potential but can be cellared for 20+ years."
In 1893, master wine maker Jean Baptist Becker founded the traditional Rheingau company in Walluf. The Becker family led it through the turmoil of the times, mastered the ups and downs of two world wars and finally made it into the present with success, where the greatest challenge now seems to be fast pace. The winery counteracts this phenomenon with its very own, extremely successful strategy: giving wine its time.
Today, dry and matured Rieslings are the flagship of JB Becker. But also impressive Spätburgunder belong to the portfolio as well as Rieslings with traditionally slight residual sweetness, which are also excellent food companions. Today, after 125 years of tradition, in which one has consistently remained true to one's own convictions, a lot of young sommeliers and connoisseurs of the wine scene are enthusiastic about those wines that often only leave the cellars of the winery after years of maturity, and above all because of it convince of their independence. Which is hardly surprising, because with each year (or better: decade) of maturity, another remarkable facet is reflected.
