The grapes carefully selected to make this wine are from gamay vines spread around the granitic slopes of the Château de Varennes, while vinification is focused on extracting tannins. After fermentation, the wine is let to lie in oak barrels for more than six months. Altogether this reveals a Beaujolais-Villages with a fruity base, yet much more structured than in its traditional form and with woody notes. The family producing the Château de Varennes has owned the estate since 1809.
